We’re thrilled to share that David Hays Music and the Sounds of the Strand Vol. 1 project were recently featured in an article in The Coastal Observer titled “Musicians put positive spin on vinyl record.”
In the piece, writer Madison Sharrock highlights the release of the new vinyl record recorded right here in Pawleys Island — a project that truly celebrates both analog music and local artistry. The album was pressed on vinyl (only 300 copies!), making it a genuine collector’s item showcasing original music by artists from along the Grand Strand.
Mission Control Studios owner and executive producer Karl Bingle explains that Sounds of the Strand Vol. 1 is a meaningful throwback to a time when music was experienced physically — and that the economics of vinyl can actually be better for artists compared to digital streaming.
The album features 10 original tracks from five local musicians, including David Hays, Sláinte Baby, BOWA, Don Thomas, and Müdflap — all recorded, mixed, and produced on a vintage Neve analog console right here in Mission Control Studios.
The article also shares how this project brings nostalgia and artistry together, from mastering techniques unique to vinyl to the joy of physical album artwork and inserts.
